ENERGY STAR / Energy Improvement Services:

Energy Star is a federal program, administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that helps businesses and individuals reduce energy costs and protect the environment through superior energy efficiency.

GECS will provide you with the information and tools you need to improve the energy use in your business through Energy Audits and an Energy Use Reduction Analysis. We can also manage the implementation of energy reducing changes to your facility, if desired.
We believe that businesses benefit financially by continually improving their management of energy resources, and the environment benefits from reduced levels of related pollution. We are proud to offer services that may assist businesses who have committed to the goals of ENERGY STAR.

Click here at www.energystar.gov for additional information on the ENERGY STAR program.

Energy Auditing Services:

GECS  provides energy audits that are tailored to your needs. The publication entitled Professional Engineer’s Guide to the EnergyStar label for Commercial Buildings is followed to evaluate your facility’s:

  • Physical Characteristics
  • Operating Characteristics
  • Energy Consumption
  • Thermal Comfort
  • Illumination
  • Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality

In addition to this protocol, the following are evaluated:

  • Energy Purchasing
  • Energy Rate Structure
  • Electrical System Savings
  • HVAC Savings
  • Motor Systems
  • Waste Heat Recovery
  • Maintenance Program
  • Sustainable energy Savings

Buildings whose performance are among the nation’s top 25 percent – equal to an energy performance score of 75 or greater on a 1 to 100 scale- and maintain a healthy and productive indoor environment can qualify as an ENERGY STAR building.  A licensed Professional Engineer is required to validate each Statement of Energy Performance for it to be considered, whether it is used to apply for the ENERGY STAR label, or for other purposes.
GECS can provide the licensed Professional Engineer services required.

GECS  uses state-of-the-art diagnostics to determine building shell air leaks and thermal barrier leaks and deficiencies, which are prime sources of wasted energy in heating and cooling. We also analyze the indoor air quality of your facility, and develop improvement measures.

  1. The Building Shell is investigated on-site using zone pressure diagnostics, infrared inspections, and other tests. This process will identify large and small air leaks as well as thermal deficiencies through your building walls, roof, windows, doors, and other areas.
  2. Existing  energy use, including electrical, oil, gas or other source is reviewed. If excessive use is identified, more efficient systems and equipment are recommended.
  3. Lighting, water heating, and other non-conditioning systems are evaluated for efficiency. Process systems are reviewed for energy efficiency. Recommendations are made for energy use improvements.

Energy Retrofits / Improvements:

GECS  provides energy retrofit recommendations for improving your energy use. This report will identify locations of required work, with photos and a written description of the required work. Each work item is evaluated by cost, economic evaluations, life-cycle costing, and a priority list is provided that identifies your “return on investment”. This simplifies your decisions regarding how much to do and when to do it.

The work can then be carried out by the contractors of your choosing. We can also provide Project Management services to you, which would include the procurement of the various subcontractors’ services, and managing their work on your facility.

We can then provide a follow-up, on-site inspection to ensure that you have received the quality and effective work that you paid for.

Cost Reduction Services:

GECS  can provide research for securing cash incentives and other possible reimbursements. Efficiency Maine incentives, for example may provide up to $300,000, to be used in a one-year period, to help fund energy-saving projects for businesses. Pre-approval is required for lighting and refrigeration applications with incentive payments over $1,000, and for all HVAC, variable frequency drive, and custom applications. Incentives are generally available for retrofit or new construction. (Click the links below for more information)

Environmental Success:

Environmental concerns are an increasingly significant factor for businesses and their customers. Investment in energy efficient equipment, systems and buildings is an extremely cost-effective strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
