GECS
Energy
Star / Energy Improvement Services:
Energy Star is a program that assists homeowners. Our
primary goal is superior energy efficiency. With our help homeowners can reduce energy costs
and protect the environment. In addition, through improved indoor air quality homeowners will see an increase in
the comfort and improvement in the health and safety of their home’s occupants.
GECS will conduct Energy Audits and an
Energy Use Reduction Analysis that will provide you with the information and tools you need to improve the energy use
in your home. You also have the option to have us manage your home energy improvements.

Energy Auditing Services:
GECS provides energy audits that are tailored to your needs. We use state-of-the-art diagnostics to
identify the sources of wasted energy in heating and cooling your home. We also analyze the indoor air quality of your
home, and develop measures for improvement.
·
We assess your home on-site
using zone pressure diagnostics, infrared inspections, and other tests. This process will identify large and small air
leaks as well as thermal deficiencies through your home’s walls, roof, windows, doors, and other areas. Improvements
in your home’s energy efficiency are then designed for best performance, which we identify in our report to you.
· We assess your current energy
use, including electrical, oil, gas or other sources, evaluating for wasted energy. More efficient systems and equipment are
then recommended.
·
We evaluate lighting,
water heating, and other non-conditioning systems for efficiency. Recommendations are made to you for energy use improvements
in your home.
·
We assess health and safety
issues in your home, including indoor air pollutants, excessive moisture, and ventilation capacity. We design improvements
in indoor air quality and provide a written report.

Energy Retrofits / Improvements:
GECS provides energy retrofit recommendations for improving your home’s energy use and indoor
air quality. Our report will identify locations of required work, with photos and a written description. Each work item is evaluated by cost, and a priority
list identifies your “return on investment”. This simplifies your decisions on how much to do and
when to do it. Many times, the most effective retrofit is the least expensive one! We help you sort that
out.
The work can then be
carried out by you, or your chosen contractors. We can also provide project management services to you, including securing
the various subcontractors’ services, and managing their work on your home.
We can then provide a follow-up, on-site inspection to ensure the
quality of the work.
Cost Reduction Services:
GECS can conduct research to identify possible tax incentives and other reimbursements, helping you to pay for energy
improvements.
- The Federal Policy Act of 2005 includes
provisions for tax credits to purchase high-efficiency products, and to design and construct efficient buildings
and building systems.
- The Maine Housing Home Energy Loan
Program (HELP) offers financial help to Maine homeowners under certain guidelines.
- Other programs exist to help in energy improvements (see links below).
Environmental Success:
Environmental concerns have become a significant factor
for homeowners. Investment in energy efficient equipment, systems and buildings is an extremely effective strategy for reducing
greenhouse gas emissions.
